What is all this talk about VOC?
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are found in everything from paints and coatings to underarm deodorant.  Recently some states (see chart and map below) have enacted  new laws concerning limits on volatile organic compounds (VOC) for the Architectural and Industrial Maintenance (AIM) industry.

Definitions:
VOC: Any volatile compound containing at least an atom of carbon. Our solvent-based architectural coatings contain mineral spirits, a petroleum distillate containing carbon.  VOC Content: The weight of VOC per volume of coating.

How does this affect you?
You can still buy our complete product line in quarts in all 50 states.  For our customers who live in states with VOC restrictions, we also have a new line of VOC compliant versions of our 2 most popular products, Original Sealer/Finish (TB6038) and Original Satin Finish (TB6035), both of which are available in gallons & quarts

We feel that you will experience little if any changes in our new formulations even though there are differences in the actual make-up of the formulation. This is primarily due to the fact that the core ingredients remain the same (tung oil, phenolic resin, etc.).

Some retailers have not yet stocked our new VOC Compliant product.   If you cannot locate your favorite Waterlox product from your retailer, please call us toll-free for assistance at (800) 321-0377.

Further, appurtenance, means any accessory to a stationary structure coated at the site of installation, whether installed or detached. Therefore, our Marine Finish and Marine Sealer products are not regulated by these rules, nor do these rules apply to any of our products unless they’re used in the aforementioned applications.
