The Myths About Finishing Pine Flooring

"You better not even try it"
"Only a professional Can Do It"
"It will never turn out right"

Yep......I Did It!!

I have never done anything like this before and was told I could not do it without a professional and I could not find a professional in my area to do it.

Here goes.

Day 1: I installed about 500 sq ft of T&G Ponderosa Pine Boards 10 inches by 12 feet in length. I random cut the boards. I nailed down with a floor nailer that puts the nail into the tongue on the board. Rented the nailer from Home-Depot.

Day 2: I rented a floor sander from Home-depot. It took me about 3 hours to sand the floor to desired finish. Then I took a bucket of Mineral Spirits and hand wiped the floor to clean of any dust left from the sander....there wasn’t much.

Day 3. At 7 AM I applied the 1st  coat of Original Sealer/Finish and followed the directions on the can. The first coat too me about 1/2 hour to apply to 500 sq ft. Let stand 24 hours.

Day 4: At 8AM I applied the 2nd coat of the same material. Took about 30 minutes to do 500 sq ft Let stand 24 hours.

Day 5. At 9AM I applied the 3rd of the same material. Took about 30 minutes to do 500 sq feet and let stand 24 hours.

Day 6: At 10 AM I applied the 4th coat of product. Took 30 minutes to do 500 sq ft. Let stand 7 days.

That's it, nothing to it!

I had professional painter’s in after that to do other work for me and they said that the floors were the nicest they had seen and one told me that the finish was "furniture grade".

THANK YOU WATERLOX FOR YOUR HELP ONLINE AND ON THE PHONE WHILE I WAS DOING THIS PROJECT.....I really appreciated being able to talk with someone who knew exactly what I was doing.

Dear Sirs,
Three years ago I did some renovations on my house.  I had cut down a large ash tree and had the lumber milled into flooring.  After doing some research I selected your product.  I didn't want my wood to look like or feel like plastic.

I was really pleased with the ease of application and the appearance.  Our daughter was married in the back yard shortly after the renovations were completed and the flooring was clearly one of the highlight of the house.I also have two black labs who are hard on everything.  I was amazed at how well the floor held up in appearance in spite of the scratches from happy dog feet, but what I am about to tell you exceeded any expectation I had for your product.

The last weekend in July, Lake County received what has been estimated as a five hundred year storm event.  I had 24 inches of water over my flooring.  When the water receded it was covered in 4-6 inches of slit and mud.  We immediately began to clean up including power washing the mud out of the house.  The sub flooring began to warp and me and my friends and family pulled up the flooring cut the nails out and stacked it in an unheated warehouse for 7 months.

Two weeks ago we progress with my flood rebuilding project to the point of reinstalling the ash flooring.  My contractor friend and everyone who has a seen the floor is amazed.  We are currently debating if we need to refinish the floor, other than in a few spots. Honestly remarkable.

I could never understand why anyone could choose any finish over yours.  I am installing and addition 250 SQ Ft of flooring in the house and rest assured Waterlox will be the finish!

Sincerely

Hello there,I just wanted to let you know that Waterlox Original Satin Finish works extremely well as a gunstock finish. I believe you would do well if you marketed this, or a very similar finish as a gunstock finishing product. Of course there are numerous companies today making gunstock finishing products, but I find yours to be the best due to its water resistnce and toughness. It absolutely does a great job! Keep up the good work,

Dear Waterlox,

Let me start off by saying that you have an *amazing* product. We just finished a major remodel of our home and, among many other things, put in a beautiful 4x8' walnut island counter. I knew I wanted a tung oil finish, for ease of maintenance and nice wear features. I'd asked our contractor to use your Waterlox product, since I'd seen so many countertop companies recommend it. Unfortunately, none of the local hardware shops carry Waterlox. So we went with MinWax. Bad call. After 6 coats, we still could not achieve a uniform finish and the wear resistance was terrible. I left an aluminum bottom can on the counter overnight w/very little moisture--it soaked thru the finish and put a nice black ring down into the wood. Ugh.

So I purchased your product a month ago, sanded the finish down to the wood and reapplied 4 coats (original sealer). Perfect uniformity, great sheen and wonderful wear to date. I cannot describe how pleased I am with your product. I was going to put your glossy sealer on as a final coat--but your original is perfect for our needs.

Thanks!!!
