Q: Can I use a steam cleaner to clean my Waterlox® finished floor?
A: Most everyone has seen the infomercials showing how a steam cleaner magically sanitizes and cleans a surface. In fact, we have had many people ask about using a steam cleaner. Our stance is that we really don’t suggest using steam cleaners. We are not so much concerned that the steam will hurt the Waterlox® but we are concerned that it might actually damage the wood itself.
We do not have any proof of this potential damage but following the logic that water and wood are not really “best friends” added to the possibility that the steam could get pushed into the seams between the boards, we recommend against using steam cleaners.
Having said all of that, we can tell you that we have had customers tell us that they are in fact using the steam cleaners with good success. Our answer to that is always that if you insist on using them, do so sparingly as opposed to regularly.
