Outdoor direct Ultraviolet light and Waterlox Original Tung oil finishes.

Protecting outdoor wood surfaces in direct Ultraviolet rays with clear topcoats that allow the natural beauty of the wood to shine through can be difficult. In fact, it is one of the coatings industry’s toughest assignments. Surface preparation and regular maintenance are two key factors that have to be followed in order to finish and protect outdoor wood surfaces.

Our Waterlox Original Marine finishing system is formulated as a traditional Tung oil spar varnish. It is made from Tung oil and a special resin mixture that forms a protective and elastic finish against sun and salt/fresh water exposure.  Our Waterlox Original Marine Finish when used as a finishing system in conjunction with Waterlox Original Marine Sealer penetrates and waterproofs and reflects the UV instead of absorbing it.

With Waterlox, maintenance is as simple as applying another coat without any surface preparation other than cleaning. You also will have sufficient time to recoat before the wood becomes unprotected.

Please review the Marine Application Guide in the FAQ section of our website for more detailed information.
