Our Marine finishing system is recommended for use outdoors in areas that have direct UV exposure. As the gloss begins to fade on the Marine Finish, this is the key to knowing that its time to re-coat.
- For the grey/darkened areas, you’ll want to wipe them with Mineral Spirits to determine if they turn black upon exposure; which they may. If they do, they’ll need to be sanded down. I’d start with 320 grit sandpaper to get to bare wood removing any black/grey. You can continue to wipe with Mineral Spirits to determine if you’ve removed all the graying.
- Next, you’ll need to rebuild any areas that had to be sanded down due to graying or to film shrinkage.
- Next, you’ll want to re-coat the entire project with one coat of Marine Finish.
